In the World, Not of It: What's Happening Around Us & What God's Word Says - Seedandsoulful

In a world that feels louder, more divided, and more uncertain by the day, it can be hard to know where to stand. Political tensions are rising. Headlines feel heavier. Social media pulls us in every direction. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, we're trying to live as people of faith.

But here's what we keep coming back to: we were never called to be of this world — only to live in it.

What's Happening Around Us

This past week the news cycle has been relentless — political decisions, cultural debates, and a national conversation that seems to grow more fractured with every passing day. Whether it's policy changes, economic uncertainty, or the ongoing tension between different worldviews, it's easy to feel anxious, angry, or just plain exhausted.

And if you've felt that way — you're not alone. Even the disciples felt it.

What Scripture Says

Romans 12:2 cuts right to the heart of it:

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will."

The world wants to shape us. It wants our opinions formed by algorithms, our identity defined by political affiliation, and our peace dependent on who's in power. But God calls us to something radically different — a transformed mind. One that sees beyond the headlines.

John 17:15-16 reminds us of Jesus' own prayer for us:

"My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it."

Jesus didn't ask God to remove us from hard times. He asked for our protection within them. That's a powerful distinction. We are meant to be present — engaged, compassionate, and grounded — but not swept away.

A Different Lens

When we look at the political landscape through a Kingdom lens, something shifts. We stop asking "who's winning?" and start asking "how can I reflect Christ here?" We stop consuming fear and start producing peace. We stop being defined by what divides us and start being anchored in what unites us — the love of God.

Philippians 4:7 promises: "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

That peace isn't passive. It's a guard. It actively protects your heart from the chaos the world tries to pour into it.

How to Live It This Week

  • Before scrolling the news, open your Bible first. Let God's Word set the tone for what you consume.
  • When a political conversation heats up, ask yourself: am I speaking from fear or from faith?
  • Pray for leaders — all of them — as 1 Timothy 2:1-2 instructs, regardless of party.
  • Wear your faith boldly. Let your life, your words, and yes, even what you wear, point to something greater than this moment.

We are Seed & Soulful because we believe faith is planted in the everyday — in how we dress, how we speak, and how we show up in a world that desperately needs the light.

You are in this world. But you are not of it. Walk accordingly.
