In The World, Not Of It | The Rise of Islam in the West — A Biblical Response - Seedandsoulful

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." — Matthew 28:19

Welcome back to "In The World, Not Of It" — your weekly Christian worldview column from Seedandsoulful. This week we're addressing a topic many Christians are quietly observing but few are openly discussing: the rapid growth of Islam in the Western world — and what the biblical response looks like for believers. 🙏✝️

What's Happening in the World

Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world and in the West. In Europe, mosques are being built at a historic rate while churches close their doors. In the United States, the Muslim population has more than doubled in the past two decades. Immigration, high birth rates, and active evangelism (called da'wah) have all contributed to this growth. Meanwhile, Christianity in the West is declining in cultural influence, church attendance, and public presence. Many Christians are noticing this shift — and wondering what it means and how to respond.

What the World Says

Secular culture largely dismisses concern about this trend as Islamophobia — a fear-based, bigoted reaction to religious diversity. It tells us that all religions are equally valid paths to God, that pointing out differences between faiths is intolerant, and that the Christian response should be silence, accommodation, and coexistence at all costs. At the same time, some voices on the political right respond with hostility, fear, and rhetoric that has nothing to do with the Gospel. Neither extreme reflects a biblical worldview.

What God's Word Says

Scripture gives us a clear, compassionate, and courageous framework for engaging with people of other faiths — including Muslims:

📖 Matthew 28:19"Go and make disciples of all nations." The Great Commission doesn't exclude Muslims. Every person — regardless of their religion, background, or culture — is someone Jesus died for and someone we are called to reach.

📖 John 14:6"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." This is not arrogance — it is the most loving truth we can share. Jesus is the only way to the Father, and Muslims — like all people — need to hear it.

📖 Romans 1:16"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes." The Gospel is powerful enough to reach anyone — including those raised in Islam.

📖 Ephesians 6:12"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world." Our battle is spiritual, not political. Muslims are not our enemy — they are people made in God's image who need the same Gospel we do.

📖 2 Timothy 1:7"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline." The Christian response to cultural change is never fear — it is power, love, and a sound mind.

Key Differences Between Islam and Christianity

As Christians, we must understand what we believe and why — and how it differs from Islam. Here are the most fundamental distinctions:

  • 🔥 The nature of God: Islam teaches that God (Allah) is absolutely one and has no son. Christianity teaches that God is a Trinity — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — and that Jesus is the eternal Son of God.
  • 🔥 The person of Jesus: Islam honors Jesus as a prophet but denies His divinity, His death on the cross, and His resurrection. Christianity is built entirely on the death and resurrection of Jesus as the Son of God and Savior of the world.
  • 🔥 Salvation: Islam teaches salvation through submission and works — following the Five Pillars. Christianity teaches salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
  • 🔥 The Bible vs. the Quran: Islam teaches that the Bible has been corrupted and that the Quran is God's final, perfect revelation. Christianity holds that Scripture is the inspired, authoritative Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16)

How Christians Should Respond

  1. Replace fear with prayer. Pray for Muslims by name. Pray for open hearts, divine encounters, and dreams and visions — which God is using powerfully to reach Muslims around the world.
  2. Build genuine relationships. You cannot share the Gospel with someone you don't know. Be a neighbor, a coworker, a friend. Love comes before proclamation.
  3. Know what you believe. Study the differences between Christianity and Islam so you can have informed, gracious conversations. Ignorance breeds fear; knowledge breeds confidence.
  4. Share the Gospel boldly and lovingly. Don't be ashamed of Jesus. Many Muslims have never heard a clear presentation of the Gospel — and many are spiritually hungry. You may be the only Christian they know.
  5. Trust God's sovereignty. The growth of Islam in the West is not a surprise to God. He is still on the throne. He is still saving people from every tribe, tongue, and nation — including from Islam. Our job is faithfulness, not fear.

A Closing Prayer

Lord, give us eyes to see Muslims not as a threat, but as people You love and died for. Give us the courage to share the Gospel boldly, the wisdom to do it graciously, and the faith to trust You with the results. May Your church rise up in this moment not with fear or hostility, but with the power, love, and sound mind You have given us. Let the light of the Gospel shine brightly in every dark place. In Jesus' name, Amen. 🙏✝️
