A faith-forward look at one of the most important conversations the Church isn't having loudly enough.
What's Happening
Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world — and America is no exception.
According to Pew Research, the Muslim population in the United States has more than doubled since 2007 and is projected to more than double again by 2050. Mosques are being built in cities and small towns across the country. Islam is being introduced in public school curricula. Halal food sections are expanding in major grocery chains. And in many major American cities, the call to prayer is now broadcast publicly.
None of this is hidden. It is happening in plain sight.
And yet — many Christians don't know what Islam actually teaches. They don't know what the Quran says about Jesus. They don't know what Muhammad claimed. And they don't know what the Bible says about false prophets, false gospels, and the spiritual forces behind them.
That is a problem. Because you cannot stand firm against something you don't understand.
"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." — Hosea 4:6
What Islam Teaches vs. What the Bible Says
Let's be clear and compassionate: Muslims are not our enemies. They are people made in the image of God, deeply loved by Him, and in need of the same Savior we all needed. We are called to love them, pray for them, and share the Gospel with them.
But Islam as a religion makes truth claims that directly contradict the Word of God — and those claims matter eternally.
On Jesus:
The Quran says: Jesus (Isa) was a prophet — a great one — but not the Son of God. The Quran explicitly denies the Trinity and states that God has no son. It also denies the crucifixion, teaching that Jesus was not actually crucified but was taken up to heaven before it happened.
The Bible says: "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." — John 3:16
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." — John 14:6
"Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist — denying the Father and the Son." — 1 John 2:22
The resurrection and the crucifixion are not minor theological details. They are the entire foundation of the Christian faith. A Jesus who was not crucified and did not rise from the dead cannot save anyone.
On Salvation:
Islam teaches a works-based system — your good deeds must outweigh your bad deeds on the Day of Judgment. Even then, salvation is not guaranteed. Allah's mercy is sovereign and unpredictable. There is no assurance of salvation in Islam.
The Bible says: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast." — Ephesians 2:8-9
"There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." — Romans 8:1
We are not saved by what we do. We are saved by what He did. That is the Gospel. And it is the most radical, countercultural, life-changing truth in human history.
On God's Nature:
Islam teaches that Allah is absolutely one — singular, unknowable, and distant. He does not have a son. He does not indwell His people. He is a God of power and will, not of relationship.
The Bible reveals a God who is Three in One — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — who created us for relationship, who came to earth in human form, who died for us, who lives inside us by His Spirit, and who calls us His children.
"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!" — 1 John 3:1
These are not small differences. They are irreconcilable at the core.
The Spiritual War Behind It
Here is where we have to go deeper — because this is not just a theological debate. This is spiritual warfare.
The Bible is clear that there are principalities and powers at work in this world — spiritual forces of darkness that operate behind false religions, false gospels, and anything that draws people away from the truth of Jesus Christ.
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." — Ephesians 6:12
"But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse!" — Galatians 1:8
Paul wrote those words knowing that false gospels would come. And they have. Islam arrived 600 years after Christ — affirming enough of the Biblical narrative to seem familiar, while denying the very things that make salvation possible.
That is not an accident. That is strategy.
The enemy does not need to create something completely unrecognizable. He just needs to get close enough to the truth to deceive — to offer a Jesus who cannot save, a God who cannot be known, and a salvation that can never be assured.
"And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." — 2 Corinthians 11:14
This is why the growth of Islam in America is not just a demographic trend to observe. It is a spiritual reality to respond to — with prayer, with truth, and with love.
So What Do We Do?
1. Know what you believe and why.
You cannot share the Gospel if you don't know it. You cannot defend the faith if you haven't studied it. Read your Bible. Know the truth about Jesus — His life, His death, His resurrection, His claims.
2. Pray for Muslims.
They are not your enemy. They are your mission field. Pray that God would reveal Himself to them — and He does. Testimonies of Muslims coming to Christ through dreams and visions of Jesus are documented and growing worldwide. God is pursuing them.
3. Love your Muslim neighbor.
If you have Muslim neighbors, coworkers, or classmates — love them. Be kind. Be curious. Ask questions. Build relationship. The Gospel travels on the road of relationship.
4. Don't be silent.
The Church has been too quiet for too long about the exclusive claims of Jesus Christ. Not out of hate — but out of love. Because if Jesus is who He says He is, then the most loving thing we can do is tell people the truth.
"Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." — 1 Peter 3:15
5. Put on the full armor of God.
This is spiritual warfare. Treat it like it. Pray. Fast. Stand firm in the Word. And remember — the battle has already been won.
"The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." — 1 John 4:4
A Final Word
We are not called to fear Islam. We are not called to hate Muslims. We are called to be the light of the world — to know the truth, to love people with that truth, and to trust that the same God who saved us is more than capable of saving them.
The growth of Islam in America is not a sign that God has lost control. It is a call for the Church to wake up, stand firm, and go.
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations." — Matthew 28:19
All nations includes our neighbors. 🙏
