From Surrendered to Sent — When God Calls You Out of Your Comfort Zone

Seed & Soulful Podcast | Episode 5

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me.'" — Isaiah 6:8

If you listened to Episode 4, you know we talked about what it means to go From Seeking to Surrendered — that moment when you finally stop striving, open your hands, and say, "God, I can't do this on my own. I need You."

And if that episode hit you — if you're still sitting in that surrender — good. Stay there a little longer. Let it do its work.

But today I want to talk about what happens next.

Because here's what nobody tells you about surrender: it's not the finish line. It's the starting line.

The Isaiah Moment

In Isaiah chapter 6, the prophet has just had the most overwhelming encounter of his life. He sees God seated on His throne — high, exalted, holy. The seraphim are crying out. The temple is shaking. It is undeniable.

And Isaiah's first response? He falls apart.

"Woe to me! I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips." — Isaiah 6:5

That is surrender. That is the moment of — I see who You are, and I see who I am, and I have nothing to offer.

But God doesn't leave him there. He purifies him. He equips him. And then He asks:

"Whom shall I send?"

And Isaiah — this man who just said he was ruined — says:

"Here am I. Send me."

From undone to sent. From surrendered to commissioned. From I have nothing to use me anyway.

That is your story too.

A Story I Have to Share

I want to tell you something personal — because I think it's the best illustration of this truth I've ever lived.

My family and I had been attending our home church for about six months. Baptism had been on our hearts. My husband and I were actually talking about it that very morning — in the car, on the way to church. Just casually. "We need to do this. We need to get baptized." No plan. No date. Just a conversation.

That Sunday happened to be our church's 7th year birthday celebration. We were excited just to be there for that.

And then my son walks in, looks around, and says — "Mom. They're doing baptisms. We should do it today. All of us. Right now."

I was like — "I don't know if we can just... do that."

But something in me knew. That conversation in the car wasn't random. God had already been preparing us.

So we talked to some friends at the church and asked — "Is it too late? Can we still get baptized today?"

And they said yes.

That day — after the service, at our church's 7th year birthday celebration — my family got baptized. Together. All of us.

I did not plan that. Only God could orchestrate a morning like that — put the conversation in the car, put the nudge in my son's heart, and make a way where we didn't even know to look for one.

"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord." — Psalm 37:23

Your next step might already be in motion. God might already be setting it up. Your job is just to say yes when it shows up.

God Doesn't Call the Equipped. He Equips the Called.

When God calls us out of our comfort zone, three fears show up almost every time. Let's name them — because naming them takes away some of their power.

"What if I'm wrong? What if this isn't really God?"
Test it: Does it align with Scripture? Does it persist over time? Have wise, godly people confirmed it? If yes — move.

"What if I fail?"
Failure in obedience is not the same as failure. God is looking for faithfulness, not perfection.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23

"I'm not enough."
You're right. On your own, you're not. And that is exactly the point.

"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." — 2 Corinthians 12:9

God doesn't need your sufficiency. He needs your availability.

What "Sent" Actually Looks Like

Being sent doesn't always look dramatic. Sometimes being sent looks like:

  • Being the woman in your neighborhood who prays for people by name
  • Starting a small group in your living room
  • Showing up consistently for a friend who is falling apart
  • Using your platform — however big or small — to point people to Jesus
  • Building a business that funds the Kingdom
  • Raising children who know who God is

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord." — Colossians 3:23

Q&A Highlights From Episode 5

"How do I know if it's God calling me or just my own ambition?"
God's calling is persistent, peaceful, and bigger than you. Fast and pray for 21 days. Get in community. God rarely calls us in isolation.

"I surrendered but I'm terrified to take the next step. Is that normal?"
Yes. Fear is not the opposite of faith — it's the companion of faith. Courage is taking the step while your knees are shaking. God will meet you there.

"What if I fail at what God called me to do?"
God defines success as faithfulness. The only real failure is not trying.

"How do I balance stepping out in faith with being a mom, wife, and caregiver?"
God called you to your family and your purpose. They're not competing — they're connected. Start now. Start small. Start faithful.

You Were Saved to Be Sent

Friend, you were not saved just to be saved. You were saved to be sent.

The same God who met Isaiah in the temple is asking you today: "Whom shall I send?"

And I believe somewhere in your heart, you already know the answer.

So say it. Out loud if you have to:

"Here am I. Send me."

And then watch what God does. 🙏
